Project Overview
CLIENT
Self Initiated Project
BRIEF
Produce artistic works for local art show / competition
CONCEPT
Creating hand drawings using white pencil and ink on black card or board with line of washed up creatures and object showcases my signature style. It evolved unknowingly from drawing therapy to help cure insomnia developing a style of doodling and line drawing of the beach in my home town. Drawing is a great form of relaxation for the mind with incredible power to disconnect one from the bustle of every day life. Coupled with an actual walk by the sea and beach combing, I have the perfect formula for relaxation, inspiration and creativity.
One of the greatest small joys in my new life is being able to walk on the beach with bare feet every day and discovering the most unexpected things. The first was the blue bottle or man-o-war normally avoided due to its nasty sting. But when you examine the creature more carefully, it takes on a new life with its vivid blue colouring, transparent glistening body and intricate curling tentacles. If you look even closer you will discover other rare and fascinating tiny blue creatures washed up along side the masses of blue bottles. The blue button jellyfish, blue sea lizard or blue dragon and blue sail are natural predators of the blue bottle. One never knows when or what the seasonal, tidal or sea conditions will reveal. Another of my favourite finds are sea urchins with their delicate and detailed pattern of dots and holes arranged in perfect pentagon symmetry.
