Project Overview
CLIENT
DIPLOMA Assignment
BRIEF
Create a book cover and film poster for a classic children's book using a range of traditional media.
CONCEPT
For this project I selected a book from the "The Narnia Series", namely "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", authored by C.S. LEWIS. This is an all time classic and one of my favourite books as a child, that is still read and watched in film today. I am familiar with the storyline and characters, which helped me get absorbed in recreating and reimagining the visuals. The media I experimented with included: graphite, ink pen and watercolour. The key subjects were of course : Susan, Peter, Edmund and Lucy, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. The resultant artworks were then digitised and composed into concepts. My unique take on this project came in the form of pack of playing cards to show the two sides of each character and transform the story into a game. Hence, the quote from the book, "the battle is real and not a game". Thus, challenging the notion of what is fiction and what is non fiction that is underpinning the series.
