DIPLOMA Assignment
BRIEF
Create a wine label
CONCEPT
I selected the Huon Valley where my family ancestors settled 7 generations ago. This region is known internationally for its unique boutique and gourmet produce, from Apples to Wine and everything in between. During the development phase, I experimented with the following subjects: scarlet robin, a sextant showing map reference for the Huon Valley, Huon Pine, Tasmanian Tiger stripes, historic church, local waterfront scenery, wine varieties and wine types in the form of a table of elements. I settled on the tiger stripes, using Van Dieman's as a name, to link back to the land's history. The idea behind is that it is an old extra special yet internationally recognisable brand that is unique and rare only to be found in the remotest corners of the land. The notion of extinction (possible / probable) used to signify and market collectability. The Tigers stripes were shown in mirror image questioning reflecting upon the extinction story yes or no, alive or not...as many still profess backed by many reported sightings. The Tiger is ancient and wild like just like pinot noir.
