CONCEPT
The most unexpected and amazing and unusual creature that I have ever discovered is the blue sea dragon. It is very very very rare, only washing up maybe once a year for 1-2 days in late Summer. When they wash up they wash upon on enmass in 100s and 1000s. Despite the numbers they are hard to spot, very small 1 cent to 5 cent size, often upside down showing their white underbelly hiding the brilliant blue back, mixed up with sea weed and scattered among the blue bottles or man-o-wars. They are the blue bottle predators with 6 times more of a sting after consuming the blue bottle toxin and concentrating it. Needless to stay they pack a punch despite their size and go after a creature much bigger than themselves! They truly must be fearless like their name suggest. But then often gone on the next tide or day. I have spent many hours many times over the year photographing them, after first turning them right side up and refloating them in a tidal pool or. sand pool near the edge. Once righted they slowly unravel to their full extent, their featherlike feet spread out in a fan from the short points or leg sfront from a slender slub like body and swishy tail. They tend to float and drift with the movement of the water rather than swim and propel themselves that I could observe. What was the most noticeable was their incredible irridescent blue and dark blue shiny colouring, like a mythical creature from another world. You really do have to see one to believe it
